What an honour it is to welcome NZ Fijian Schools 7s to the Lomu Legacy International U18 Sevens, taking place on 12 and 13 December 2026 at Pakuranga Rugby Club, Auckland.
Proudly flying the flag for Fiji, this talented young squad will bring the flair, speed and joy that Fijian sevens rugby is loved for around the world. We can't wait to see them light up the field in Jonah's honour.
Jonah and Fiji
Jonah's bond with Fiji ran deep. In 2012 he was the official ambassador of Fiji's Coral Coast Sevens at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, and he was honoured with a plaque on the Sigatoka Town Rugby Walk of Fame, the row of plaques along the town's main street celebrating the game's greats. That same year, the Jonah Lomu Medal was created for the tournament's top try scorer.
Jonah always spoke of Fiji with great affection. He admired how Fijians play the game for the pure love of it, and he believed winning a tournament in Fiji was one of the toughest tests in sevens. As he once said while we were in Fiji together, "coming here is coming home because the people make you feel so welcome."
A message from Nadene Lomu
"Jonah, the boys and I have always loved Fiji. Some of our most treasured family memories were made there, including the day Jonah was honoured on the Walk of Fame in Sigatoka, with Brayley and Dhyreille right there beside him.
Fiji always made our family feel at home. Now it's our turn to make NZ Fijian Schools 7s feel at home here in Auckland. Vinaka vakalevu, Fiji, for helping us carry Jonah's legacy forward for the next generation."
Come and join us
The Lomu Legacy International U18 Sevens is officially sanctioned by Auckland Rugby and brings together players from around the world, alongside the Jonah Lomu AllStars, invitational players from international nations playing with top New Zealand talent.
